POST IV: MY FAVORITE TV SHOW

I hate watching TV, however, I love series. Since 2012, when I started to  have a computer at my disposal I always watched series on it. Some of my favorites are Lost (2004), the first season of  True Detectives (2014) and Breaking Bad (2008). However, about two years ago my older sister bought a subscription to HBO's streaming service and I discovered The Wire (2002) an absolute gem, which I think has become my favorite series of all time.

The Wire, at a surface level could be seen as a generic show about a group of outcast detectives from Baltimore, led by Lt. Cedrick Daniels (Lance Reddick) and the detective James McNulty (Dominic West) who are assigned to an investigation against a group of drug dealers, led by Avon Barksdale ( Wood Harris) and his right-hand Stringer Bell (Idris Alba) who control a good portion of the city. However, it's much more than that.

This Show is almost an ethnographic study about the city of Baltimore. The thing that surprised me the most about this series is that each season  adds a new institution of the city and the effect that those institutions have on the people. the first season deals with the corrupt police department of the city and the institutions that control the drug trafficking, The second season adds the syndicates who control the docks and the international trafficking, the third season adds the government and the politicians who run the city, the fourth season adds the educational system and finally the fifth season adds the media.

I don't think I can pick a favorite episode, because there are too many that I love. However, I can easily choose my favorite character: Omar Little (Michael Kenneth Williams). This character is like a modern Robin Hood. He basically is a gay dude who robs drug dealers with a shotgun. The thing I like the most about this character is that he is one of the few people in the show who has a strict moral code, which involves the refusal to harm innocent civilians and the distaste for profanities.
